South Africa’s leading Adult Education and Training (AET) provider, Media Works, has achieved top honours in this year’s National Skills Authority (NSA) Awards.

Every two years the NSA holds an awards ceremony to acknowledge the institutions and individuals who have been pivotal in creating opportunities for South Africans to realise their goals and potential in the skills training and employment sector.

“These awards recognise the good work done by men and women of our beautiful country, who are charged with the responsibility of equipping our people with usable skills,” said Minister of Higher Education and Training, Naledi Pandor, at the awards ceremony which was held on 14 March 2019.

Media Works Cape achieved Gold in the NSA’s Best Practice in Skills Development Award in the Chemical Industries Education and Training Authority (Chieta) sector. The runners up were Africa Skills Village, which won Silver, and South African Petroleum Refinery, which achieved Bronze.

“Media Works is an organisation with a solid history and outstanding record in providing AET interventions and services. Media Works specialises in creating customised education solutions, by effectively integrating technology, courseware and support services,” reported Youlendree Appasamy in a recent NSA Awards article in the Mail & Guardian.   

Media Works is honoured to have been nominated by Chieta Eastern Cape regional office for this prestigious awards. This year’s nominees – both skills development implementers and other stakeholders – all showed dedication to realising the National Skills Development Strategy III goals.

“As South Africa’s leading AET provider for over 23 years, we as Media Works are incredibly proud to have won this National Skills Development Award. The award recognises our work with CHIETA, where we have trained over 400 people with disabilities across the country since 2016,” says Caroline Knoetze, Media Works Regional Implementation Manager (Western and Eastern Cape).

“The programmes that Media Works ran included General Education and Training Certificate, Adult Education and Training and Work Readiness. This training has helped the learners dream bigger, become more independent and contribute more meaningfully to the economy,” Knoetze continues.

The NSA Awards are aimed at mobilising and promoting the involvement of all skills development implementers and stakeholders to ensure the realisation of the National Skills Development Strategy III goals. We look forward to taking this objective forward as we continue to upskill and empower South African adults.
